Self-care is an essential component of motherhood. Our families rely on us each day to make the best decisions, to love them and to provide for their overall wellness and health. How can we give our best if we haven’t learned to apply our best to ourselves?

Top 10 Ways Moms Can Take Care of Themselves

moms take care1. Get enough sleep.
This means making sure to unplug from computer and cellphones minimum one hour before bedtime. Have an evening routine that is calming for kids and family. Consider a lavender bath with Epsom salts and aim for 7 to 8 hours sleep.

moms take care2. Fuel your body with nutritious and delicious meals!!!

Studies show that 30 minutes combined cardio and weight resistance training increases endorphins, longevity ,healthy weight and overall health.

moms take care4. Yoga and Meditation
Consider some new or ongoing practise which have proven stress and therapeutic relief.

moms take care5. Count your blessings.
Make a gratitude list. Look beyond the difficult moments and strive for the positives and silver lining. We all have a multitude of things to be grateful for. Post your list and add to it.

moms take care6. Ask for help.
We don’t have to do it all alone. Ask family, friends, partners, spouses and co-workers for help. People love to be needed.

moms take care7. Say “no”.
Saying “no” to a project, to someone you love, to a volunteer activity is sometimes necessary. The guilt can be real but is a risk and discomfort to be taken at times.

moms take care8. Help others.
Nothing feels as good as giving to others. Get involved in charity, a cause or your passion. Helping each other makes all our lives richer and rewarding.

moms take care9. Get Connected.
Connect to your community, spirituality, girlfriend, pets or whatever feels right for you. Ie. Nature, music, reading, hobbies ,dancing or gathering with girlfriends. Do something at least once a week that makes you feel whole.

moms take care10. Be your REAL you.
Believe in yourself and abilities. Going out of your comfort zone can be the best thing that can lead to great transformation!
